Trip Report: Mambukal Mountain Resort, Murcia, Negros Occidental

Coming from the USA, we are accustomed to natural areas being in public ownership as parkland. In the Philippines many such places are privately owned and operated. Mambukal Resort is about a 45 minute drive from Bacolod City. It consists of beautifully landscaped grounds in which are set a swimming pool, picnic shelters, ponds, rental cottages, a Japanese bathhouse, a butterfly garden, and a food court. From Mambukal one can hike further up into the mountains to a series of waterfalls. Contact: 034-7100-800. Please note that some guidebooks refer to Mambukal as Mambucal.

Cottage at Mambukal
A rental cottage at Mambukal. While the design of the cottages was delightful and the price reasonable, our cottage was not in the best of shape. This is a heavily used resort and the rooms are often occupied to overfull. We paid P900 for our aircon room. The aircon was not really working due to low voltage. While there was a hot water heater, it was not working. The accommodations were acceptable but nothing to look forward to. We did have our dinner at the on-site food court. There were two or three separate independently run restaurants. Ours was quite good (grilled Blue Marlin, BBQ chicken) and the prices reasonable.

Butterfly Farm - Mambukal Resort, Murcia, Negros Occidental, Philippines If you pay a small fee you may visit the resort's butterfly farm.
In the Philippines, the population density is so high, the forest so decimated that, except for beach resorts, it can be hard to experience nature and natural beauty in the Philippines. Mambukal is a great getaway for those seeking a bit a of nature.

I find it absolutely amazing that such a premiere resort in the sugarland -Mambucal Mountain Resort, does NOT have a website of its own where you can do bookings and reservations directly ONLINE. . . . but I would not be surprised: much of the Philippines is still a century behind in terms of telecommunications technology. . .

It’s true, but remember, you’re paying P900 for an aircon room at a beautiful resort. A comparable mountain resort with modern reservations systems in the U.S. would charge how much per night?
While Mambukal may not have all the luxuries and bells and whistles, I think it’s great that the provincial government runs Mambukal and that it’s affordable to many ordinary Pinoy families so that they can enjoy the natural beauty of their own country.

We are planning to have a three day overnight stay there in mambukal and we were aware about much of the stuff and fees but the food rates in the said “RESTAURANTs” maybe someone could post or send me a message about their “average” price per viand. or if they have “SET (good for a number of people) meals”

When we were there there was sort of a food court where separate vendors offered meals at reasonable prices. The prices were not inflated, but were similar to what you would pay at BBQ places outside the resort — say like Mang Inasal The food was quite acceptable.

Hi Bob. Good to see your many beautiful websites and apt comments. My home-helper, a city college scholar, likes your photos of Mambukal resort. There are jeepneys parking at Bacolod City’s south public “Libertad” market going to the resort, about 34 kms. east of the city. We will have a church retreat there April 2-3 and have a Tenebrae service. A solemn weekend to you and Carol. gad

hi, i just suggest its good if there is a hot water shower the missing og mambukal, the reason was low voltage. you know guys, Why you did not make a project the hot come out from the land u make a system to go every room for the hotel mixed from cold water and reality thats not a reasonable for low voltage because mostly resort they have there oun generator to support all the lights etc. if there is low voltage and even from water u get electricity like that lagoon place there is very much water.
and one things the room is big and good looking outside but inside the room is poor.?
