Iloilo City Hotel and Pension House Recommendations

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

This gives our recommendations for hotels and pension houses in Iloilo City especially good budget places to stay in Iloilo. There are countless choices when it comes to places to stay in Iloilo City.  We’ll just mention a few possibilities we are familiar with and like.  Just be warned that these are all mid-range to budget-minded Iloilo hotel choices. Those accustomed to the Marriott or Hilton will not appreciate these places, or maybe any hotel in Iloilo. If you want deluxe, the Sarabia Manor, Hotel del Rio or Day’s Hotel may be your best choices.

This is a very quiet family-run pension house, not a place to bring bar girls, drinking or other rowdiness. It does offer spacious, air con rooms with beautiful views of the river for less than P1000. It’s located just across General Luna from San Agustin University and is within easy walking distance to dining and shopping. All who I have recommended it to have been pleased. 033-338-1626

Century 21 Hotel on Quezon Street is quite new, very well located and well run. Prices P700 for a single, P925 for superior room with matrimonial bed. 033-335-8821-23. The Century 21 has a sister hotel, the Highway 21 on Gen. Luna near the Sarabia Manor. 033-335-1839 to 40.

The Iloilo Midtown Hotel where singles are P850, deluxe is P1,300 and Suite is P2,000. Downstairs there is the popular  but so-so Summer House Chinese restaurant. The Midtown is in a very convenient location, easy walking distance to the Atrium and SM Delgado. Phone: 033-336-6888.

The Charter House Pension at the back of the Sarabia Manor has some advantages. It’s in a very quiet location and has a small garden with tables and chairs where you can get out of your room and relax. You also get to use the Sarabia pool at no charge, a big advantage for swimmers. Rooms range from P450 for a single up to about P1150 for a family room with three beds. There is quite a bit of variation in the rooms so look before you rent. 033-335-1021 to 32.

More Iloilo City Budget Choices

Those who love old houses should give the Family Pension House on Gen. Luna a look. It’s in a lovely old house in a convenient location near St. Paul’s Hospital. P575 for an air con room with private bath. 033-335-0070

Those really, really on a budget can look at the Ong Bun Pension House on Ledesma Street near Quezon in the downtown area. Rooms start at P150 for a fan room with shared bath up to P635 for a triple with air conditioning. They also have air con rooms by the month for P5,000 to P6,000. You pay your own electric. I looked at a couple of rooms. The cheaper rooms were very small and basic, the more expensive rooms larger but still basic. The rooms and bathrooms seemed clean but a bit musty and threadbare. The residents I saw there were students; young women attending local colleges and Koreans studying English. It seemed respectable and I enjoy the busy Chinoy-dominated business district that Ong Bun occupies. Phone: 033-335-1271.  They have a web site: www.ongbun.com

Special Note:  Remember Iloilo’s popular (and hyper-noisy) Dinagyang Festival is January 16-25 2009.  Accommodations will be hard to find.

Hi there guys, I just want to know more about the specific rates for each room (Sarabia Charter Penshoin House), esp. double. I really need it as soon as possible since I’m planning to go there next week. Thanks a lot!

You’ll have to call Sarabia: (033) 508-185. Expect to pay P550 to P1200, depending on the room you choose. Post here if you get better info. Good luck.
